Ferrari unveil new car ahead of the new 2014 Formula 1 season

Image
Ferrari have revealed the car they hope will end a six-year championship drought in 2014. The new F14-T features a dramatically shaped front, with bodywork swooping down to a much wider nose tip than has been seen on the other new cars so far. The car will be driven by former world champions Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen, arguably the strongest driver line-up on the grid. The car also features tightly packaged rear body work around the turbo engine. It is Ferrari's response to the biggest set of rule changes in a generation. Formula 1 is replacing the 2.4-litre V8s of the last eight years with new 1.6-litre V6 turbos, which use extensive energy recovery systems. There are also a series of changes to the chassis rules, which have led to among other things to unusual-looking noses. After the new Williams and McLaren were likened to anteaters, and the twin-pronged Lotus to tusks, Fe...

Arsene Wenger: Arsenal manager 'will extend stay' at Emirates

Image
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is to extend his contract with the Gunners, according to chief executive Ivan Gazidis. The Premier League's longest-serving manager, Wenger is in the final 12 months of his current contract at the north London club. "Arsene will be extending [his stay] with us and at the right time we will make that announcement," said Gazidis. Wenger, 64, has been in charge at the Emirates since 1996. The announcement was made on the same day the Gunners revealed a new multi-million pound kit manufacturing deal with German company Puma. Last year Gazidis spoke about formalizing an extension for his manager, but the move was greeted with protests from some supporters, with the Arsenal Supporters' Trust calling it "inappropriate". At that time, Arsenal had yet to spend during the 2013 summer transfer window and Wenger...

Switzerland's Australian Open winner Stanislas Wawrinka has moved up to a career-high of third in the latest world rankings.  Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina climbs to fourth while beaten Melbourne finalist Rafael Nadal remains the world number one ahead of Serbia's Novak Djokovic. Wawrinka, who was as low as 18th in the world in March of last year, claimed his first Grand Slam title in Melbourne to add to his semi-final appearance at the US Open in September to become Switzerland's number one for the first time. Wawrinka said; "Some players realize that it is possible now to win a Grand Slam," said Wawrinka. Here is the letter below; Hi everyone, As you can imagine this is a very important day in my life, and with these lines I would like to express the memories and emotions that come to me as I write. HOW THE NIGERIA VS MORROCCO MATCH WAS PLAYED TACTICALLY

Image
Nigeria prevailed over Morocco in a seven-goal thriller to book their ticket to the African Nations Championship (CHAN) semi-finals on Saturday. The game ended 4-3. As expected, Bright Esieme took the place of the suspended Solomon Kwambe and Ugonna Uzochukwu returned to partner Abdullahi Shehu in the center of midfield. The rest of the side was the same as in the win over hosts South Africa, and lined up in the same 4-2-3-1. Morocco was also 4-2-3-1. One of the key features of the first half was the way in which the Super Eagles pressed. They generally let the Moroccan center backs have the ball, but pressed the central midfielders; Rabiu Ali and Gbolahan Salami worked in tandem, while the rest of the team got into two lines of four and tried to stay compact. If ever there was a game to illustrate that in football, you can’t simply rinse and repeat tactically, this was it. The same approach that had held the hosts at arm’s length in the previous game was utterly i...
